The Day, Business Briefs, 09/22/07

State Sen. Edith Prague, D-Columbia, and Rep. Kevin Ryan, D-Montville, have publicly endorsed the effort of some employees at Foxwoods Resort Casino to unionize. The lawmakers are both members of the legislature's Committee on Labor and Public Employees, and Ryan is the panel's co-chairman. Prague and Ryan wrote in a letter to The Day that unionizing “seems to be the best chance Foxwoods employees have to improve their wages, working conditions and benefits.” In the letter, they also challenged what they called a “scare tactic” by Foxwoods President John O'Brien, who had questioned the work of employees of the United Auto Workers union, who are trying to organize casino workers.
