FAQ about the UAW PDF Print E-mail

We, the workers at Foxwoods, are building our union and standing up
for respect, dignity, and for fair working conditions.

Who runs the UAW?
We do. As members of the UAW, we each belong to our own Local Unions. We elect our own officers, union stewards, and the members of our Bargaining Committee.  We also control the treasury and the finances of our Local Unions.

Who negotiates our contract?
We do.
We elect our Bargaining Committee to negotiate with our employers.  We are backed up by our International Union with attorneys, financial analysts, health care and pension specialists, health and safety experts, and others who can help us stand on equal footing with our employers.

Who approves our contract?
We do.
It is up us to make final decisions about our contract. All UAW contracts must be approved by majority vote.  This means Foxwoods' workers must vote and ratify our contract before it goes into effect.

Who decides what issues are covered in a UAW contract?
We do.
We elect our Bargaining Committee.  A typical UAW-negotiated agreement includes issues such as wages, health care, vacation, scheduling, pensions and/or retirement benefits, transfer rights, job postings, a grievance procedure, health and safety in the workplace and other issues.

How much will we pay in dues?
Dues for full time employees will be established at a flat rate of $34 dollars per month.  Dues will be prorated for people working less than full time.  Our dues will increase as contract wages are increased, as is true for other UAW members.

Remember, we will not pay any dues until our first UAW contract is approved by our membership.

Will I be required to pay an initiation fee?
No. Under the UAW Constitution, initiation fees will only apply to new hires joining our UAW local after our first contract is in place. The initiation fee for those workers is determined by our local union and is a minimum of $10.00 and a maximum of $50.00.
